Call for Thematic Panels - LIVES International Research Days on 4-5 November 2026

15 Mar 2026

Appel à propositions

Purpose

The LIVES Centre invites its members to submit proposals for organising one-day panels at the LIVES International Research Days, which will take place at the University of Lausanne on 4–5 November 2026. We welcome panels that foster our understanding of the life course and/or vulnerability and appeal to the broader LIVES community.

Panel Structure and Organisation

  • Selection of one-day panels: Up to eight panel proposals will be selected by the LIVES’s coordination team. Subsequently, an open call will be launched.
  • Format of the panel: Three sessions of 90 minutes each over one day. The research days begin and end with keynote speeches. The one-day panels take place in between, following this schedule: Session 1: 09:30–11:00; Coffee break; Session 2: 11:30–13:00; Lunch break; Session 3: 14:00–15:30
  • Speakers: 3 to 4 speakers per session for a total of 9 to 12 speakers per one-day panel.
  • Composition: Ideally, each one-day panel will include two invited international experts (whose travel and accommodation will be funded by the LIVES Centre). An open call for papers will be launched for other speakers, and organisers of the panels will be able to select presenters from these submissions. The aim is to achieve a mix of internal and external, as well as junior and senior researchers. We encourage the organisers to include at least two junior LIVES researchers (PhD students or postdocs) in their panel.

Funding

The LIVES Centre will provide catering (lunches, coffee, and evening drinks) for the event. Additionally, we will cover travel expenses for up to two external participants per one-day panel (1-2 hotel nights and, ideally, train travel within Europe).

Eligibility

At least one applicant must be a Senior / Postdoc Member (i.e. holding a PhD) of the LIVES Centre with a valid contract at the University of Lausanne or Geneva through the end of 2026.

Submission

Please send applications as a single PDF (filename: Lastname_MainApplicant) to lives@unil.ch by 15 March 2026. The document must include:

  1. Abstract: A 150–200-word description of the thematic focus
  2. Organisers: A list of organisers, specifying one coordinator (max one panel per organiser)
  3. Participants: A provisional list of two external experts you wish to invite (with two key publications per person) and potential internal LIVES colleagues. Note: You do not need to invite experts prior to selection.

Acceptance Criteria

Panels are evaluated on their contribution to life course/vulnerability research and relevance to the LIVES community. Interdisciplinary panels organized by several LIVES members will be favoured over single-research project initiatives or individual submissions.

Timeline

  • 31 March 2026: Notification of acceptance/rejection
  • 15 April 2026: Launch of the open call for papers
  • 1–30 June 2026: Selection of presenters by the panel organisers
